More New Cars!

I just joined I-GO today! Can't wait to use one of the cars. With regard to suggestions for new car locations, could you tell us what type of lots or parking spaces are work and especially what wouldn't work? If diagonal street parking spots are acceptable, it would be great to have an I-GO car in one of the parking spaces that run along S. Shore Drive between 53rd St. and 55th St. in Hyde Park. (Note: they're clearly demarcated diagonal parking spots, unlike regular parallel parking spots).
ReplyDeleteHumbolt Park cars please!
ReplyDeleteplease add more cars to edgewater!!!
ReplyDeleteIrving Park, or more cars in Albany Park! There's a huge bus turnaround next to the north exit of the Irving Park Blue Line stop, as well as room by the Pulaski St. exit for the same station. Also, what about a car at Cumberland to make those trips to the NW Burbs?
ReplyDeleteThe second car at 800 S. Clark has been sorely missed since the prius was moved. The cars in the south loop/printers row area are booked all of the time. I frequently have to travel to the north edge of the loop to get a car on the weekends. Anything you can do to add more cars to this area would be wonderful.
ReplyDeleteCVS parking lot on Chicago just east of Western has space open.
ReplyDeleteI think putting I-Go cars out in the suburbs in/near Metra stops might be a good idea for the future. I don't know if suburbanites can be converted, but it would be nice to have a car out there when the buses don't run on weekends.
There's a city lot on S. Shore Drive and 55th St. in Hyde Park (close to Promontory Point) that has space available. It's also across the street from many high rise apt buildings as well as a large UChicago residence hall so I think you'd be getting a LOT of people there.
ReplyDeleteThis is about the new reservation system:
ReplyDeleteIf I understand correctly from the tutorial PDF, the new system is a big step backward in one regard: it doesn't seem to show what times are available and unavailable for a given vehicle. The old system shows a clear timeline for each vehicle, and I have often adjusted my plans to fit the availability of the specific vehicle I want. The new system seems to flag a vehicle as unavailable if only a portion of the time range I requested overlaps a time that is already reserved. It will be like a game of minesweeper, trying different intervals blindly until I find one that fits what's available.
Or am I missing something? Is it all just an April Fool joke?
I saw a newsletter a month or two ago that announced a second car location was coming soon to Albany Park at Montrose and Kedzie. When will that happen?
ReplyDeleteI, too, am interested in when the second Albany Park (Montrose/Kedzie) car is going to be available. Please advise. Thx.
ReplyDeleteWow- this is a lot of great feedback! I'm going to try to answer everybody's questions, so here goes...
ReplyDeleteAnswering Mona's question about permanent street parking for I-GO cars- street spaces are a possibility (and we want to get them!), but they are very hard to secure. Mona- I've passed your specific suggestion along to Richard, our Parking Spot Finder Extraordinaire.
Cars in Humboldt Park: We are trying to do so but have had trouble finding an available site that has high enough visibility. If you have any specific ideas for a Humboldt Park location, please let me know!
Edgewater: We are always looking to add more cars there! We did just add two cars at 1614 N. Winthrop, have any of you used either of them yet?
Albany Park: 3 of you asked about adding more cars in Albany Park and we are working on that as I type this! The 2nd car that is going in at Montrose & Kedzie will be in by May. We're hoping to add another car at Lawrence and Kimball in the next month or two. Also, we're working with the CTA to expand our presence all along the Blue Line.
Suburbs: I-GO is very interested in expanding throughout the suburbs! We are currently working with both Metra and PACE in order to further our presence in the greater Chicagoland area.
Keep the suggestions, questions and insights coming!
I also want to add my comment to please add some more cars to Edgewater. Lately I cannot get a daytime car on the weekend unless I reserve at least 3-5 days in advance. I'm sure its only going to get harder as summer approaches as well. Most of the new cars lately have been closer to Loyola, but it seems there is very high demand in Southern Edgewater and Northern portions of Uptown too.
ReplyDeleteThe idea of linking with Metra stops in the 'burbs (or major Pace bus stops, too) is a really great initiative, even if its significance is more for those of us who live on the CTA and on foot in the city than those car-burdened brethren in the 'burbs. More power to you, iGo.
ReplyDeleteMichael had asked when the 2nd car (the Prius) was going to be back at 800 S. Clark. Good news- it's back as of last week! Once again, 800 S Clark is a two car location.
ReplyDeleteRene expressed some concerns in her post above regarding the new reservation system. Worry not! The new reservation system DOES show what times are available and unavailable for any given vehicle. It isn't a guessing game. If the a car isn't available during the time you requested you have the option of adjusting your reservation time in order to fit the cars availability. Hope this helps Rene!
ReplyDeleteI'm an I-go member and recently moved from West Town to River West. Unfortunately, there are more Zip cars in my neighborhood than I-go cars. I don't want to switch, but it's all about convenience. Any chance that there may be some additional cars in the Clinton/Lake street area? Thanks!
ReplyDeletecan you PLEASE add a second car to the Hubbard st location?
ReplyDeletethe scion that's there is booked solid every day.
We are working on adding more cars to the River West neighborhood. We will definitely have more cars in that area by the end of the year; however we are hoping to add cars there as soon as this summer.
ReplyDeleteGood news for those of you that use the Scion xb at 17 W Hubbard- we will be adding a second car to that location this summer.
How about a car in Portage Park. There is a Zipcar near Addison and Harlem. I prefer igo, but may have to join up with Zipcar to gain convenient access to a vehicle.
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of schools and Wright Community College are prime parking locations.
You're missing out on a lot of potential drivers out here. Sorry.
We are hoping to add a car in the Portage Park neighborhood sometime this year.
ReplyDeleteI also just joined I-Go! And I'm eagerly waiting to start. I have noticed that their aren't that many cars in the Bronzeville area. Lake Meadows and Prairie Shores have quite a few apartments in the area. Maybe you could have an I-Go car in one of their parking lots. I know Lake Meadows has quite a few parking lots. A lot of residents are students and young professionals without cars and I believe I-Go would get a lot of business.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI think I Go is a wonderful service and have been a member for a few years now. I am hoping that you will be able to add more cars to the Shoreham/Lancaster buildings soon since they seemed to be booked almost all the time.
Thank you,
Lisa
