Bike Sharing in Barcelona
This morning I stumbled upon an interesting, detailed article on Bicing- the thriving bike sharing program in Barcelona. Earlier this month, I talked about the accretion of bike sharing across the globe. The more I learn about these successful bike sharing programs, the more I want this in Chicago! I mean, Mayor Daley did pledge to transform Chicago into the greenest city in the U.S.... What do you think? Would you utilize a bike sharing system if it came to Chicago?

I moved to Chicago from Berlin/Germany and was sad to see that there was no bike-sharing program in Chicago.
ReplyDeleteIn Berlin there is "call-a-bike", run by the German Train Company (Deutsche Bahn). Call-a-bike has been in operation for several years and is very practical. After setting up an account, you can basically rent any of the many bikes around the city by simply calling a number to activate the bike. you can return it anywhere, just call the number again to tell the operator the location of the drop off place.
It is really simple and very popular. and not expensive either (6-8 ct. per minute, depending on the plan)
I really think this could work in chicago too.
